The township has an area of 63.94 Km². It contains the ancient uninhabited place of Carles and the ancient township of El Toscà. The village is at a height of 334 metres, and it is the only inhabited place of the township. It is on the left of the gully of "llop", in a not very big depression. |

Two thirds of the township are rugged. These lands can not be cultivated and hold many forests of white and red pines, and palmetto. This forestal richness has been exploited for ages. The property belongs to communities, private and to the State. In the plainest side, there are some unirrigated lands, where we find some crops as the olive and the almond trees and thelucerne. The irrigated crops are not very important. There are 50 Ha. which basically grow some vegetables. Two sectors are very important for the economy of the municipality. These are the poultry-farming and the cattle-breeding. The last one is basically formed by goat and sheep breeding. This sector makes goog use of the wide pasture lands in the mountains. In them we find abundant animals for hunting: rabbits, wild pigs, iberian goats (there are more that 5000 nowa that the State has protected them). In the 60's, the population of Alfara decreased due to the strong migration that happened in the village. Instead of this, the village lives some prosperous moments given that the industry of Roquetes and Tortosa is relatively near, and it employes a lot of people of Alfara. This has helped to rise the quality life in the village. The characteristics of the population ar the typical ones in a mountain village. The landscapes are very beautiful, and this has attracted many people who go there to enjoy the mountain life. The Toscà area is a peaceful area with abundant water that has recently become a residential area for Summer, inhabited specially by families from Tortosa. |
